Welcome to LBRA — Lake Brantley Rowing Association

Step onto the water and discover a sport unlike any other. At LBRA, you'll build cooperation, synergy, and lasting friendships with your fellow rowers — all while becoming part of something bigger than yourself. As an officially recognized club at Lake Brantley High School, we compete in regattas throughout Central Florida and travel out of state once a year to take on larger competitions featuring teams from across the nation and colleges alike.

New to Rowing? No Problem!

You don't need any experience to get started. While many of our athletes join through our Middle School programs, plenty of rowers begin with zero background in the sport and any grade — and thrive. Our coaches guide every new athlete with hands-on instruction, structured training, and a supportive team culture that celebrates growth at every step.

We start on the rowing machines and weight gym to refine your form and build cardio and strength, then take you out on the water, where the real adventure begins.

Our High School Program (Grades 9–12)

Open to athletes in grades 9–12, our program follows a season-by-season rhythm designed to help every rower thrive. Regattas are generally on Saturdays and last most of the day, held in a variety of Central Florida locations ranging from our own practice lake to travel as far as Sarasota, FL. Coaches will post the race-day schedule the week prior. Parents are responsible for providing transportation for their rower to these one-day races on race day.

What to Expect

During the school year, rowers practice up to five days a week, mixing time on the water with strength training, running, and ergometer workouts. Under the guidance of experienced coaches, you'll learn the principles of rowing and develop techniques that sharpen your individual skill while making you a stronger teammate.

Success at LBRA reaches far beyond the finish line. Our athletes build responsibility, time management, and commitment — habits and life skills that carry well beyond the boathouse.

Fall Season

The focus is endurance and teamwork as crews take on long-distance head races, usually around 5,000 meters. One-day regattas are included in the registration.

*There will be one overnight travel regatta in the fall season. The team travels and stays together at out-of-area overnight races. Rowers will be billed separately for participation depending on hard costs.

Spring Season

The energy shifts to fast, high-intensity sprint racing over 1,500 to 2,000 meters.

*There will be a team overnight regatta in spring for the State Championships, held each year in April at Nathan Benderson Park in Sarasota. Rowers will be billed separately for participation depending on hard costs.  *Depending on team results, some rowers may be invited to compete at Regionals in May or Nationals in June.

Rowing Toward Your Future

Colleges love high school athletes — especially rowers — because they understand the value of hard work, dedication, and teamwork. Whether you're rowing recreationally or setting your sights on competing in college (and even earning scholarships), our coaches are here to support you every step of the way.

RFC — Required Fundraising Commitment

The RFC per season is funds needed to make the club viable and affordable. Lake Brantley Rowing will host two fundraisers each year, one in the fall and one in the spring, to help rowers meet their required fundraising commitment for each season. Exceeding the minimum RFC requirements assists our club in investing in new equipment to continue the overall success of the program.

The fall will be a golf tournament where rowers can sell raffle tickets for prizes, get participants to sign up to golf, or sell sponsorships for the event. In the spring, we hold a casino night fundraiser and a novice regatta where rowers have opportunities to sell tickets and raffles.
